Introduction to ServiceNow

ServiceNow is a cloud-based platform, a piece of technology that enables people to automate workflow in business. ServiceNow was founded as Glide soft, Inc. in 2003 by Fred Luddy.

The ServiceNow automation platform provides a modern,easy to use ,service management solution in the cloud allowing organisations to automate manual repetitive setup tasks, manage core IT processes, standardise service delivery and focus on core business and not just ITSM infrastructure. It uses a configurable web-based user interface, built on top of a flexible database schema.

The Now-Platform User Interface is the primary way to interact with the applications and information in a ServiceNow instance.The Service Portal provides a user-friendly self-service experience by providing access to specify features using widgets. We can access it by- https://<instance-name>.service-now.com/sp>

All the features of ServiceNow can only be accessed by accessing an instance of the platform.An organisation can have several instance & each instance is a single implementation of ServiceNow platform.

Steps for Logging In :

Now Platform Interface:

ServiceNow user interface is divided into three areas:

1.Banner Frame: highlights important tools and settings that apply to instances.

2.Application Navigation: The component of this area are based upon assigned roles.The navigator my be expanded or collapsed. It provides links to all application menu and modules.

3.Content Frame: Displays information such as lists ,forms ,dashboards,knowledge bases, and service catalogue depending on where you navigate within the platform.

Types Of Users In ServiceNow:

Users have unique IDs for ServiceNow login. A user is a part of a group and a group is part of user hierarchy. We can add a users or groups to our instance by navigating to User Administration->Users/Groups-> select New.

Roles

Once access has been granted to a role, all of the groups or users assigned to that role are granted the same access.
